Thanksgiving with Lone Star Kitchen
When my American husband and I moved to Switzerland in September of 2005, one of our first concerns became: how would we celebrate Thanksgiving!? Thanksgiving is an American holiday that takes place the 4th Thursday in November, and is defined by traditional foods and gatherings of friends and family. I’d been cooking our Thanksgiving dinner since my husband and I moved into our first apartment together in Los Angeles, 10 years earlier. However, not only did we not know *anything* about making Thanksgiving in Switzerland, we also didn’t even have a kitchen, as we were only renting a temporary room! We went on a local group for expats and found a motley crew who were meeting for a potluck. We trekked into Zurich with casserole in hand (I think it was mashed potatoes??) and we got our first taste of how these traditional holidays bond us together as US Americans, no matter where we may find ourselves.
Some of you may be new to Zurich, some of you may have lived here 20 years! But your love of Thanksgiving is still strong, even when living overseas.
This year I am adding a new offering to my catering: Thanksgiving Dinner! I am offering packages for 8,10, or 12 people. Included in the package will be 1 whole, cooked turkey, sides, and dessert. The is price per package, however you are free to add additional items at an extra charge. When I cook my Thanksgiving dinner, I like to add a little Southern/Texan flair, so you have your choice between southern classics and more traditional options.
